BREAD GIRLS
Winter 2018 - Present

During a particularly caffeine-induced doodle session last holiday break, my friend Natalia Bello and I created a series of characters representing different types of bread. What started as a joke about our love of bread grew into the concept for a full dating simulator.

This project is currently under development. The working title of the game is Bread Girls, however this is subject to change.

With the recent non-conventional dating simulators such as Doki Doki Literature Club and Dream Daddy, we also wanted to try creating a fun non-serious dating sim. Ren'Py, and engine designed specifically for creating visual novels, we found was the perfect engine to use. Although most of the core functionality was built-in, I learned some basic Python to customize menus, change default settings, and create custom screens with additional functionality.

The character sprites are drawn by Natalia Bello, the coding is done by me, and the script is a collaborative effort.

Sourdough Touma Dachi

In Bread Girls, you play as a self-insert male protagonist. The left screen above show one of the dateable bread girls, Sourdough, your childhood friend. On the right is Touma Dachi, your best friend who is here to support your journey in pursuit of the ultimate high school romance.

Phone Chat Screen Touma Dachi Conversation

The two images above are the custom screen I created that simulates an interactive phone screen. At the end of each day, the player can choose a character to chat with on their phone. This conversation can progress your relationship with that characters or unlock date options. Your friends available to chat increase as you interact with more characters.

And lastly, here are some sketches drawn by Natalia Bello. These are designs for our charming bread girls Sourdough, Melonpan, Wheat, Bagel, Baguette, and Pizza.
